In 2020, many Christmas Markets were suspended but in 2021 and 2022, they came to brighten the streets and become the backdrop of several European cities. From music, to lights, to decoration and traditional period sweets, Christmas tends not to go unnoticed.

Frankfurt Christmas Market, Germany

The Frankfurt Christmas Market attracts more than three million visitors every year and has 200 stalls to entertain the public. There you can find mulled wine with spices, grilled sausages and ginger crackers. From food, to decoration and hot drinks, the fact is that the event sells more than articles and food, the premise that Christmas is about magic.

At the Frankfurt Christmas Market, be sure to visit the huge and imposing Christmas tree situated in the old city centre. The event will take place from November 21st to December 22nd, 2022.

Rathausplatz Christmas Market (Vienna), Austria

The Christmas markets in Vienna have existed since 1298. Currently, the city has more than ten official Christmas markets. The most famous and ancient one is located in the Rathaus, the building that serves as the seat of the city's municipal council.

The market, known for its Viennese cuisine, sets the stage for the traditional magic of the time. The lights, the songs around the Christmas tree and the Christkindl Express train are the real protagonists of the Austrian city. The market will take place  between November 19th and December 26th, 2022.

Basel Christmas Market, Switzerland

This market is often touted as one of the largest and most beautiful in Europe receiving more than one million visitors every year - one of the reasons is associated with the promotion of activities for the youngest. The event has a special space for children: the Märchenwald (which means, enchanted forest). In this space, kids and adults can decorate candles, make paintings and work with wood. You can visit the market between November 24th and December 23rd, 2022.

La Fira de Santa Lucia (Barcelona), Spain

Barcelona gives us a singular beauty all year round, but at Christmas it looks particularly stunning. “La fira de santa llúcia” is the largest and oldest Christmas market in the capital of Catalonia and is situated opposite Barcelona Cathedral. The fair will take place between November 25th and December 23rd, 2022 and will have at its disposal more than 100 chalets with the main traditions of the city.

Le Grand Market (Paris), France

Like other countries, France is full of Christmas markets, but it is  at Le Grand Market in Paris that you will find one of the most imposing ones.  Between 25 of November and 8 January, the city of love opens its doors to the most magical time of the year.

Monuments such as the Notre Dame Cathedral or Champ de Mars offer a privileged view of the illuminated Eiffel Tower, not leaving aside crafts and gastronomy, but there is more: at Le Grand Market you can take a carriage ride.  The whole city is prepared to provide an excellent Christmas experience with ice rinks, choirs and lots of lights.

Old Town Square (Prague), Czech Republic

Entering Prague's Christmas markets is like entering an authentic fairy tale. The largest and best known is located in the Old Town Square (Staroměstské náměstí) and will brighten up the city from 26 November 2022 to 6 January 2023. The atmosphere of magic lived in Prague is mainly associated with the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque buildings. In addition, every day there is a show or a live concert.

For those who prefer a quieter market frequented by locals, there is also a solution: there is an option at the Republic Square, a short walk from the Old Town Square, and with a smaller flow of tourists. This market can be explored between the end of November and the beginning of December.

Tivoli Gardens Christmas Market (Copenhagen), Denmark

Between the months of November and December, Copenhagen is plunged into the holiday hustle and bustle. Tivoli Gardens gives way to an authentic amusement park. At the entrance to the park, the visitor is surprised by a 70-metre light tunnel, which is illuminated by 50 thousand lights. The amusement park combines the Christmas market with the illuminated parades of the Tivoli Youth Guard. The event will take place from November 18 to December 31, 2022.

Bruges Christmas Market, Belgium

Like other markets, the Bruges Christmas Fair also offers a lot of craftsmanship and magic. However, and in addition to the typical waffles and hot chocolate, it also promotes Belgian beer. This event will take place between November 25th and December 31st, 2022.

Montreux Christmas Market, Switzerland

The Montreux Christmas Market stands out for its attractions. Not only does the event have a Ferris wheel, it also gives us the arrival of Santa Claus on a sleigh, delighting the little ones. In addition, the market has built cottages to house full restaurants, for those who prefer to enjoy the meal while seated. The event is also situated on the shore of Lake Léman — in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. The market will unfold between November 19th and  December 24th.

Bussolengo Christmas Market (Verona), Italy

Have you ever thought about having dinner with Santa? In this market it is possible. Bussolengo's Christmas market can easily be dubbed “Christmas Village”, since in total it is more than seven thousand square metres. The Italian event differs from the others by  offering the opportunity of a dinner with Santa Claus every Thursday and Friday, between the end of November and mid-December. You can visit the market from November 5th, 2022 to January 8th, 2023.
